In the first six months of this year, there has been a remarkable development in socio-economic fields of the Central Highlands, with GDP growth rate of 14.8%, higher than the average rate of the whole nation, while security and national defence have continued to be ensured. The information was given during a meeting of the Central Highlands Steering Committee, in order to review the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 10 on Central Highlands’ socio-economic situation and political security in the first half of the year. The meeting also aimed to discuss solutions to continuing economic development, stabilizing the national defence and security, curbing inflation and ensuring social welfares in the second half of 2008. According to top-ranking general, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security and head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee Le Hong Anh, in the first six months of this year, the five Central Highlands provinces collected 3,650 billion VND for budget; and there has been a year-on-year increase in exports, agricultural and industrial production.
