KUCHING: A stable government is needed to handle the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, says Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. "At the federal level, the situation is worrying because of power struggles and disputes among political parties. This is not the time for politicking but for us to come together to tackle the threat of Covid-19,” the Sarawak Chief Minister said. “Alhamdulillah, Sarawak has a fairly strong government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)," he said at the launch of the state-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at the state Legislative Complex here on Monday (Aug 16). Abang Johari said the most important thing now was for Malaysia to be governed by a stable administration while facing a health crisis due to the pandemic. He said the state government would not give up on its efforts to bring the pandemic under control. He said the state’s main policy in fighting Covid-19 was to accelerate vaccinations for all eligible individuals. “Sarawak has nearly achieved herd immunity ahead of other states, with vaccines administered in cities and towns to the most remote areas such as Long Singut in Baleh, near the border,” he said.
