Every year since 2005, Hollywood’s Black List has given you the best, brightest, and unproduced-est of scripts. We’re talking Slumdog Millionaire. We’re talking Spotlight. We’re talking, um, The Beaver. For the 2020 iteration of the storied list, noted cinephiles Desus Nice and the Kid Mero hosted a live announcement ceremony on Vanity Fair, in conversation with Black List founder Franklin Leonard and with appearances from Bong Joon-ho and Taika Waititi. This year’s list saw 80 feature-film screenplays, suggested by over 375 film executives. These include horror scripts and biopics, quirky comedies and high-concept action. Three of the scripts — Occupied, What If?, and Good Chance — center on transgender stories. Because this is Hollywood, many more deal with astronauts, outer space, and aliens.
