Don't expect this latest short spin-off from the blockbuster animation to make a lot of sense but it is a lot of fun. Why? This time the story is interactive, allowing viewers to touch their screens and decide which direction the action takes as we’re all invited to progress up the ladder at Baby Corp. Alec Baldwin might no longer be voicing Boss Baby himself but listen out for Jumanji star Rhys Darby as hilariously dopey villain Happy Sedengry. … [Read more...] about Netflix: best movies to watch this week – September 2020
Leo’s made just shy of 30 movies in his three-decade-plus career, which seems low, considering how many 23-year-olds he picked up at 1Oak in that same time period. He has died in nine of these movies. That means he’s died in nearly one-third of his movies. This is, frankly, an insane number of times for an actor to die in their movies. In fact, he is the 30th most-dead person in movie history, after Brad Pitt, Bela Lugosi, and Nicolas Cage. Now, I know what you’re thinking: It’s not that deep; Leo just loves to die. And sure, who among us doesn’t? Look deeper, though, and you’ll find a shocking, illuminating pattern within these filmic deaths. While Leo is not hot in every movie he dies in, in every movie he’s hot in, he dies. … [Read more...] about Leonardo DiCaprio Won’t Let Himself Be Hot Onscreen Without Dying
Plenty of fans were thrilled with the trailer's release, and took to Twitter to share their excitement. Janelle Monáe joins Tessa Thompson in Lady in the Tramp, but not in the role she should obviously be playing, which is her love interest. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monáe will play Peg, a “wise-cracking pound dog” who was originally voiced by Peggy Lee. Thompson is the titular Lady, while Justin Theroux is her Tramp, with Kiersey Clemons, Thomas Mann, Ashley Jensen, and Benedict Wong also already part of the voice cast. Charlie Bean is directing the movie and Andrew Bujalski wrote the script for the feature that, like so many other recently announced projects, is expected to debut on that sprawling streaming service that Disney is intending to launch next year. … [Read more...] about Janelle Monáe Cast Alongside Tessa Thompson in
Bajaria’s promotion and Holland’s exit won’t dramatically change what Netflix subscribers see, certainly not anytime soon. For one thing, it’s important to keep in mind that while the best-known execs at the company obviously play a key role in determining what kind of shows get made at the streamer, Netflix remains remarkably decentralized. Mid-level execs have the power to greenlight projects without getting the thumbs up from a Holland or Sarandos-level boss. (Bajaria explained this process to me two years ago for my bigger story on Netflix, telling me she didn’t clear all of her greenlight decisions by Sarandos, just as Riegg didn’t run everything by her. Sarandos, she said, “knows strategy-wise and macro, but when we picked up those shows that you saw [at a company presentation], Brandon and his team bought those shows. There were no other layers other than the team deciding that those shows made sense.”) Bajaria could obviously … [Read more...] about Netflix Just Disrupted Itself. Why?
