Created by Master of None ’s Alan Yang and 30 Rock ’s Matt Hubbard (both of whom also worked on Amazon Prime’s Forever, starring Rudolph and Fred Armisen), the show will star Rudolph as a woman “whose seemingly perfect life is upended after her husband leaves her with nothing but 87 billion dollars.” The humanity! Today, Apple TV+ announced that The Problem With Jon Stewart would launch on the streaming service sometime in the fall of 2021. Stewart will host the series, which Apple describes as “a multiple-season, one-hour, single-issue series which will explore topics that are currently part of the national conversation and his advocacy work.” So, you see, you’re looking at the problem with Stewart. It’s not that there is a problem with Stewart, though there will probably be some classically self-deprecating jokes about that, so get ready. The series has already hired Edward R. Murrow award winner Brinda Adhikari as its showrunner and Chelsea Devantez of The Opposition With Jordan Klepper as head writer. This morning, Apple TV+, the tech giant’s media streaming service, announced an original content production called The Line that’s actually a combination of two different projects spanning two different formats. The first project is a six-part narrative nonfiction podcast series hosted by Dan Taberski ( Missing Richard Simmons , Running From COPS ) that debuts today on Apple Podcasts and via RSS feed, which means it’s accessible by every other podcast platform that’s plugged into the open ecosystem. Meanwhile, the second project is a four-part limited documentary series directed by Jeffrey Zimbalist ( The Two Escobars ) that will be released exclusively on the Apple TV+ platform later in the fall. Both come from Jigsaw Productions, the prolific documentary production company led by Alex Gibney. Roku offers just four such buttons on its remotes, making them incredibly valuable real estate for platforms, which actually pay Roku for the right to be included. Apple TV+ will now share space on new Roku remotes with Netflix, Hulu and Disney+; Sling TVt has been sent to streaming Siberia. The branding agreement with Apple will be seen first on the company’s brand-spanking new Roku Voice Remote Pro, a $29.99 device which goes on sale today at Roku.com and is scheduled to hit retailers next month.
