A Letter to Nick Nolte on His 80th Birthday
It’s important for people who do valuable work to know they are valued. Photo: United Artists/Courtesy Everett Collection King. That’s the middle name on your birth certificate. February 8, 1941. Nicholas King Nolte. The King. That’s you. Embrace it. Since you’re turning 80 today, I thought you should know that a lot of folks, myself included, consider you one of the finest actors this country has produced. You don’t have an Oscar yet, though you’ve been nominated three times — for The Prince of Tides, Affliction, and Warrior. I’m sure it felt good, that official recognition. Search Party The Mystery of the Golden Charm; The Secret of the Sinister Ceremony Season 1 Episodes 5 and 6 Editor’s Rating 4 stars * * * * « Previous Next » Alia Shawkat as Dory. The latest attempt to alleviate her misery is homemade seltzer — “for the environment,” she says, unconvincingly — as Dory scrolls through Chantal’s emails. Turns out, Chantal had a roommate she despised named Penelope. Both Gail and Dory agree that Penelope is a possible suspect. … [Read more...] about Recap: The Writing on the Wall

We ran into Esme Bianco, whose former GoT character, Ros, started the sexposition revolution, at the Society of Camera Operators award show in Los Angeles. We asked Bianco about her thoughts on the “sexposition” concept, and how she feels being at the center of this storytelling trend: I look back and think it was a very clever coining of that phrase. People tell her secrets; they reveal a side of themselves we wouldn’t otherwise see. I think the best example is with Theon, who obviously — now he’s gone on to become weak and we have seen this amazing character arc. But in season one, it would be very easy to see him as arrogant, very self-confident, a bit of a twerp. But we see him with Ros and see he’s a vulnerable guy who has insecurities, and there’s more about him than first meets the … [Read more...] about Esme Bianco on Being at the Forefront of
